On a Thursday night a few weeks ago, in excited anticipation of the coming weekend a friend and I decided to go to a local bar. Having tried out almost all of the available and interesting bars in the Palms/Culver City area we decided to venture just a bit further out of the area to The Alibi Room on Washington near Centinela. I had seen it several times while on my way to drop off my rent check and I noticed that it looked nice. I was attracted by the trendy stone facade with a bright yellow sign using a cool font. None of my friends had ever told me a thing about the place. When we walked in, I immediately thought that the place looked stylish and contemporary. It was dimly lit, there were many places to sit, including plenty of couches, and I noticed a small fireplace with a couch turned towards it. The space was somewhat small, but I wasn’t surprised since I know that most of the bars on Los Angeles’ Westside can’t really be compared in size to those found in Hollywood. And to be honest, I like that about the Westside. We walked up to the bar, which I liked because it was long enough, a bit circular, and with enough seating, and I asked for a Long Island Iced Tea. I found out that they don’t even serve that drink and was given a menu with a nice little list of international beers and a few wine selections. In general, the atmosphere seemed relaxed save for a party that was taking place on the patio.

After drinking the tasty Pilsner Urquell from the Czech Republic that I had ordered and leaving the place, I began to think about this bar’s location. Being located on Washington Blvd. Is probably its biggest disadvantage. Most of the other bars in the Palms/Culver City are at least somewhat close to the flowering downtown Culver City. This bar is going to need a good marketing/ word of mouth buzz to make it a place to include on a list options for weekend nighttime activities. I plan on checking it out again on a Friday or Saturday night because I can see that it has potential. As for Thursday night, this might be the perfect mellow spot to take a date…..
