Free Online Storage Solutions
April 27th, 2008 · No Comments
Backing up and sharing files is too easy with the Microsoft Skydrive and the Gspace Firefox Add-on. These online storage solutions have been around for some time, but recently the storage space has grown quite a bit (to 5 GB) and since they’re free, it’s time to sign up.
Put photo albums, music, and movies online so that you can access them from any internet enabled computer. It’s perfect for exchanging pictures and at the low-low price of free, there are no more excuses for hoarding pictures from that last trip to Rosarito.
It’s also a very practical method for sharing files between work and home computers and hiding files from nosey folks who may be poking around your hard drive.
The Microsoft Skydrive holds 5 GB of data and works with your Windows Live ID. It is easy to sign up for Windows Live which is also free. Just go here.
The Gspace Firefox Add-on has space for 4+ GB of storage and has been around for a couple of years. It uses your Gmail storage space which is constantly growing. Hmmmm…I wonder if there will be a Firefox Add-on to tap into Yahoo’s “unlimited” email storage.
It looks like Google and Microsoft have found another arena to compete in and these services will continue to be improved dramatically as a result. Amazon is also offering their Simple Storage Service which is not free, but still isn’t terribly expensive at the monthly cost of $0.15/GB.
