Music and Movies on Demand with SeeqPod
June 24th, 2008 · No Comments
SeeqPod claims to be “playable search” which isn’t a very clear concept. What that means is that it searches the web for audio, video, slideshows, finance, wikipedia and other rich multimedia content and plays/loads it conveniently within the search results page.
While that doesn’t seem too useful at first, it is a great way for playing music and movies on demand. It is crucial when you are yearning to hear a song and your MP3 player isn’t nearby or you too lazy to buy/download it. So far, there isn’t a song that I haven’t been able to find on SeeqPod. It has other features like sharing, embedding, and creating playlists from various ‘playable’ media.
On the technical front, SeeqPod’s creators at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory claim the search engine imitates human cognition. They are also planning on applying the same technology to other types of searches. That’s all good… so long as I can play the newest music on the net in seconds.
I am not sure how illegal content laws will affect SeeqPod, but for now it works and of course it is free. The RIAA will probably be targetting them in the future. It seems like illegal content disclaimers and extra padding between the SeeqPod search results and the copyrighted material could be required at some point.
Here are some of my recent SeeqPod listens (which are easily embeddable):
