The Reissue of the Sal 23 Brings on Classic Skate Shoe Nostalgia
May 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Etnies Footwear is bringing back the Sal Barbier Skate Shoe aka the SLBs aka the Sal 23. This shoe was originally released in 1993 and was one of the most popular signature models of its time. Etnies, with the help of In4mation and Sal Barbier, is reissuing this classic shoe. There have been plenty of petitions for this shoe to be put back into production and it seems that Etnies took the hint.
Here is one blogger’s slightly offensive, but informative article about Salvatore Barbier and his Signature Shoe.
Since we are on the subject, here are some other classic skateboarding shoes which take me back to the days of Classic Skate Videos like Second Hand Smoke and Trilogy.

Eric Koston was one of the premier skaters of the 1990s and early 2000s and his signature shoe was one of the most popular and expensive shoes back then. The first Koston Shoe by Es was at the forefront of skate shoe technology with its Nike-esque air bubble. Check out Eric Koston’s newest Skateboarding Shoes.

The Es Koston 3 was Eric Koston’s 3rd signature shoe which looked surprisingly similar to some Nike Air Jordans of the past. The Los Angeles Laker Colored K3s have been a hot item on eBay. Some pairs have sold for $400!

Vans shoes were all I wore for more than 3 years so I have to give it up for my favorite style…the Half Cabs. These mid top canvas shoes were inspired by old school legend Steve Caballero. They are simple, inexpensive, and unlike the flashier Es Shoe Models back then, the Half Cabs are still being manufactured.
