What is a Twitter?
June 4th, 2008 · No Comments
So… Twitter is a social networking site where people can post micro-blogs which are viewable by others in their network.
What is a micro-blog? Twitter likes to confuse us more by calling them “tweets”, but I like to think of micro-blogging as when facebook asks you “What are you doing?”. You have 1-2 sentences to express yourself. On the receiving end, Twitter combines the most recent micro-blogs from people in your network. It is a good way to keep up with friends, news, forums, and almost anything else that is tweetable.

This is the link to the funkrocks Twitter page which is only semi-spectacular at the moment. In our network you can find some tech news sites, deal forums, cool blogs and … Henry Rollins? Yeah, Henry Rollins, from Black Flag is on twitter and posts quite frequently. Here are some interesting twitterers:
Henry Rollins. Yeah it’s him…I think
John Edwards
Darth Vader…probably not him though.

Twitter is not brand new, but there are new applications being built for it all the time. Here are a few that are noteworthy:
twittervision: This site uses the Google Maps API to show a world map where recent twitter posts pop-up from the posters location. It brings twitter to life and lets users know that they are not alone, but there isn’t much function to it.
Facebook’s Twitter Application: Of course there is a Twitter Facebook App! This lets you update your Twitter straight from Facebook. It also, lets people see their Twitter network’s recent posts on Facebook. Don’t people ever get off Facebook?
Digsby: This is my favorite so far. Digsby, which has been covered in an earlier post, let’s you combine email, instant messenger, and Twitter all in one application.
So get out there on Twitter, just DON’T TELL your friends.
