Wutang Chess ain’t Nothin to f*** with

The Rza from the Wu-Tang is constantly evolving his career. He started as producer/MC for the grimy New York crew, Wu-Tang. After establishing the Clan as one of the most powerful groups in hip hop, he went on to create aliases like Bobby Digital and mastermind the score for hit movies like Kill Bill. The latest evolution of the Rza is the most shocking to me. He created an online Chess site called WuChess. It combines online Chess playing and hip hop music and videos. Membership costs about $48/year. A portion of the site’s revenue gets donated to a Scholarship Fund and the site makes it clear how important it is for youth to develop chess-like strategy skills. It looks like some of the Hip Hop Community has signed on to help WuChess. Rakaa from Dilated Peoples gives a tour of the site and the Rza has mentioned that the members of the Wu-Tang Clan and other hip hop celebrities are committed to playing online. It feels a lot like an online poker site with various types of games like speed chess and chess tournaments. Just like the Wu-Tang Clan, WuChess has a Shaolin Martial Arts feel to it. It seems like a cool idea and it exposes yet another side of the RZA, the GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, U-God , Ghostface Killah, Raekwon the Chef, and the Method Man.
